Shingle Genie

Shingle Genie

OVERVIEW

Shingle Genie is both an app and an admin dashboard that uses machine learning to identify which type of shingles have been used on a roof without the lengthy process of sending it into a lab to be chemically tested.

Shingle Genie is an app that uses machine learning to help roofers figure out what kind of shingles were used on the roof.

DISCOVERY

The main challenge of this project was to see if machine learning could accurately guess which type of roof shingle you took a picture of. After a decent amount of testing we figured out that it could guess very well!

STORY

Tyler Wrinkle and his fellow business partners were tired of having to go through the complicated and expensive process of having to send their roof shingles into a company to have them chemically tested every time they couldn’t identify what type of shingle it was. They thought there must be a better way.

They came to us with the concept and wanted to know if it was possible. We weren’t sure but were excited to try. We ran an experiment using machine learning and some roof tiles to see how well our ML could identify it. Turns out pretty well. We got the green light for the project and it is currently under development.
